Can dogs eat asparagus

Posted on | April 1, 2012 | 1 Comment

Yes, dogs can eat asparagus. This is going to be a quick one so I’ll just tell you about its benefits and potential side effects.  You may or may not know that asparagus contains vitamins A, B, AND C so you’re getting some nutrients to your beloved friend. As you know apples provide fiber to your dog but asparagus is also a good source of fiber.

Alright now that we know about the benefits of giving asparagus to dogs, let’s talk about the potential side effects. There have been reports of very stinky gas, green colored poo, and even in a rare case diarrhea, although most owners do not report any side effects. If you would like to give your dog asparagus, I recommend giving a bit at a time to see how your dog reacts to it.

My dog had a very small piece of asparagus and threw up four hours later. It’s not a great thing for all dogs apparently as he is …well..sick as a dog…right now. In all seriousness, sit this vegetable out and offer frozen peas instead.
